It’s that time of year again where I’ll be celebrating another annual cycle in this world. I’ve spent the last 12 months working on a variety of issues: workers rights, female veterans’ advocacy, & #BlackLivesMatter, to name a few. One thing that is consistent, regardless of issue or cause, is the need to communicate effectively. For it is through our voices, our media, that we tell our stories.
To place the issues that have encompassed my 36th year in a hierarchy would be a disservice; however, I have to say that the most important piece of work that I have been a part of is Forward Radio, WFMP 106.5 FM.
Earlier this year, Forward Radio was awarded 106.5 FM for the purposes of broadcasting community radio, as a result of the Community Radio Act of 2011. Since then there have been many people furiously working to get our community radio station up and running – too many people to name everyone here. Over the last few months, Forward Radio has trained countless media content creators, fostered several new Podcast/Radio Shows ( including my own – FlacozBrain Radio), and spent numerous hours reaching out to the unheard voices in our community to offer them a part of this project.
A community-based radio station that does not charge people to have shows/airtime, conducts free group & individual trainings, with the goal of amplifying the voices of our community via audio & digital media – what could be more important in these times? One thing: getting the station completely up and running. And that’s where you come in. While we are working furiously to get everything ready for our airwaves debut in April 2016, we still need additional funding for the last pieces of hardware.
Will you support WFMP 106.5 Forward Radio today for my Bornday? Your contributions will enable us to be ready to broadcast by our airwaves debut. You will be supporting community voices, community media, community stories. You can check out our recent work Here, and you can also listen to episodes of my own radio show, FlacozBrain Radio – a project are possible by WFMP Forward Radio.
Once you make your contribution, be sure to let me know so that I can send you a personalized Thank You. Contribute Today.
